The Green Agents
Aalborg Municipality's Center for Green Transition is partner in a Scandinavian cross-border Interreg project named Co-Creative Green Transition. Other partners include Hjørring Municipality as lead and Aalborg University from Denmark, as well as Skåne Energy Agency, Dalsland Local Municipalities and Chalmers University of Technology from Sweden.
The aim of Co-Creative Green Transition is to develop and test new tools and methods to engage citizens in the green transition, and make sure that these tools are created and developed in cooperation with the citizens.
In Aalborg, our specific pilot case takes its point of departure in the town of Sulsted where households have recently been equipped with new heat meters with remote reading of consumption. In connection with this, the aim of the pilot case is to engage and strengthen the citizens' interest in energy consumption by involving them in the development of technological visualisation tools that will increase access to consumption data and by focusing on behavioural changes.
The Interreg project spans over three years. The first year's (2016) focus our, the Municipality's, options for citizen involvement, and the development of new tools. During year two (2017) the new methods are tested through the practical work with our respective pilot cases. The last year (2018) will focus on evaluation and the results of the pilot cases are collected.
Launched in 2015, the Green Agents-project revolves around the idea that sustainable living should be easy for every citizen. To ensure this, a small team of Green Agents are ready to help, guide and develop sustainable ideas in cooperation with any person, organisation or institution within Aalborg, be it energy saving, waste management, urban gardening, circular or shared economy, recycling, or something completely different aiming at promoting sustainability. The Green Agents have a variety of partners and collaborators to draw knowhow from within the Centre for Green Transition and other departments of the Aalborg Municipality, as well as outside stakeholders from local and national organisations, institutions and civil society.
To reach the citizens of Aalborg, the Green Agents strive to be visual and accessible through various activities like conferences, seminars and outreach meetings and an annual Sustainability Festival, and connect and communicate through social media. The goal is to meet the citizens "where they are" and support those who wants to contribute to the sustainability agenda through voluntary work.
